Permanent residency applications are unforgiving of small errors. These are the ones we see most.

1. Skills assessment done wrong

Using the wrong assessing authority or an outdated skills assessment is a top cause of delays. Confirm the authority for your occupation first.

2. Points claimed incorrectly

Over-claiming English, work experience or partner skills can lead to refusal. Only claim what you can evidence.

3. Missing or inconsistent documents

Names that don't match across passports, qualifications and work references create avoidable requests for more information.

4. Ignoring state nomination rules

State-sponsored visas have their own occupation lists and commitments. Read them before you apply.

5. Missing review deadlines

If a decision goes against you, the window to appeal is short. Diarise it.

Bottom line

Map your eligibility before you lodge. Ask the assistant to list the usual documents for your subclass, then check current criteria with a registered migration agent.
